User portal - portal main page properties
This section is where you define the format of the main body of the User Portal page.
Title: The title you enter here is displayed below the information you configured in the General Properties section, and above the main body of the page (the columns with pagelets). This title is also shown on the portal page menu.
Available Pagelets: This is where you add all of the possible pagelets users can select to display on their personalized user portal pages. The pagelets you add here are then available in each of the pagelet zones and users can select which pagelet to display when editing their page. The pagelets you add here must already have been created in the Syndication Manager in order for you to add them here. Click Edit to add pagelets.
Columns: If you want to allow users to customize the columns on their portal pages, check the Enable View Mode Customization checkbox. This will allow users to change the displayed pagelet to a different pagelet or remove the pagelets completely from their portal page. If you allow users to select pagelets themselves, they can only select from the pagelets you added in the Available Pagelets field above.
Editing pagelets in View Mode: There are a number of pagelets that end users can edit while in the view mode of their own User Portal page. These include the:
- RSS Feed Reader pagelet
- Twitter Feeds pagelet
- General Content pagelet
When users make edits to these pagelets in the view mode of their User Portal page, the changes only apply to their own personal account, not to others who use the same pagelet. Also, when they make these changes, the pagelets are updated immediately (they do not have to go through workflow approval levels).
Add Column: You can add one or more columns to the main body of the portal page. Make sure that the total width of all columns adds up to 100%. Each column can display a different pagelet with its own title text.
Order (of added columns): When you add columns, the Order column can be used to re-order the columns. Column 1 is the left-most column on the default layout. Use the Arrow keys to change the display order of the columns.
Width (%) (of added columns): Enter the percentage of the total width you want this column to occupy in the main body of the portal page. You must ensure that the total of all columns added is 100%. The percentage is a portion of the total space allocated to the main body of the portal page so how much space they actually take up will be a function of your page layout design.
Pagelets (for added columns): This column contains an Edit link that you can use to select the pagelet to display in this column. Pagelets will only be available to select if you added them in the Available Pagelets field in this section.
: Click the delete icon to remove a column. The pagelet associated with that column is also removed.
