Creating links using the link page type

Before creating links using the link page type, be sure you understand the many different ways you can create links on your site. This way you will be able to choose the best method for creating link(s).

  1. Create the page. If you do not know how to start a new page, see First steps in creating pages.

  2. In the Link Properties section, select the type of linktype of link you wish to create.

    • Internal - links to another page in the same web site. If you select this option, you must click on <<Select Page>> to select the page to link to.

    • External - links to another web site. If you select this option, you must enter the complete address of the site to link to (e.g. www.ironpoint.com). Using the external option, you can also send emails to a designated recipient (e.g. webmaster).

  3. Select the type of windowtype of window you want the link to open in.

    • Same Window - linked page will open in the same window

    • New Window - linked page will open in a new window

    • Frame of Same Window - linked page will open in a frame within the same window

  4. Select the Frame Attributes.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Decide if you will be using an Additional PopupAdditional Popup.

When you create a link to another page or site, you can also add a popup that provides more information about your link.

      • Show info with popup - Check this option if you want to include the popup beside the new link. When you include the popup, an additional link is placed beside the link you are creating.

      • Info Text - This text becomes the link text users click to open the popup window.

      • Enter path to popup content - If you have a file that contains the information you want in the popup, type in the path and filename of that content. If you want to type content for the popup, leave this blank.

      • Popup content Editor window - use the content editor window to enter your own content for the popup.

  7. Decide if you will be using an Approval Popup.Approval Popup.

Approval popups allow you to insert an additional step into the linking process. When the user clicks the link in the content area of the page, a popup window is displayed and the user has to click something in order to proceed to the final destination. For example, the user clicks on a link but before the linked page gets displayed, the user has to read a license agreement and indicate by clicking, that they have read and agreed to it. This feature requires that you set the link to open in a New Window.

      • Show Approval Popup - check this if you want to use an approval popup.

      • Label of Agree Button - the text you type here appears on the button the user clicks to proceed to the linked page. For example you could use OK, I Agree, Yes, etc.

      • Label of Disagree Button - the text you type here appears on the button the user clicks if they do not want to proceed to the linked page. For example you could use Cancel, Quit, No, Disagree, I do not accept, etc.

      • Enter path to content popup - If you have a file that contains the information you want to popup, type in the path and filename of that content, otherwise you can type in content for the popup in the editor window. For example this could link to a user license agreement.

      • Popup content Editor window - use the content editor window to enter your own content for the popup.

  8. Click SaveĀ and submit for publication.
