First steps in creating pages

Use this procedure to create a new page regardless of the page type you are using. Specific instructions for the unique portion of each page type are provided in separate topics.

  1. Be sure you are logged in to the ACTIVE CM.

  2. Make sure you know already what type of page you wish to create. See Page types and their uses.

  3. Select a location for the new page by navigating to the parent page for the new page.

  4. On the Admin toolbar, mouse over the Add Childpage button and select the child page type to add. The Page Editor is displayed with the new page ready for editing.

If you do not see the Add Childpage button it means you do not have sufficient user rights to edit the current page.

  5. On the new child page, complete the fields in the Page SummaryPage Summary section of the new page.

    • Title - this is a required field. The title you enter here appears at the top of the page you are creating. It is also the text that becomes the link to this page. The font style, size and color are pre-determined by design templates. You cannot change them.

    • Active Checkbox - this checkbox defaults to checked when you first create a page. If you uncheck this checkbox, the page will be inactivated.

    • URL Title - If you wish, the contents of this field can be used for display on Site Maps instead of the Title field.

If you export your sites and you leave this field blank, the export uses the Title field for the filename. If you are not sure if you export your site, speak to your site administrator.

Use only alphanumeric characters in the URL Title field. All other characters will be converted to underscores.

    • HTML Title - The title you enter here gets entered into the HTML <Title> tag, which is the field that Search Engines look at when scanning the web. In other words, you can use this field to enter a title that will optimize your site's ranking in the list of search results. If you leave the field blank, the system uses the contents of the Title field.

    • Show Workflow Notes - Click this link to see the history of edits and actions taken on this page.

    • Location - this shows the location of the current page within the current site.

    • Move Page - this link is used for moving the current page to another parent page.

    • Copy Page - this link is used for making a duplication copy of the current page that you can then edit.

    • Page Type - this indicates the type of page you are looking at. The Reassign link is used for changing the page from its current type to another type. Note the WARNING.

    • Page Owner - this field is not always displayed. It only appears if the Page Owner feature has been set up in the Global System Variables and the Group Manager. If you are using this feature and it has been configured by your site administrator, you can simply select the owner of the page from the drop-down box.

    • Save and apply to children - click this link to assign the same Page Owner to all the child pages of this page.

  6. In the General Properties section, enter the optional TeaserTeaser text.

    • The Teaser field briefly describes the content of the current page.

  7. Click Save.

Further information on editing pages is found under individual topics for each specific page type. These are listed in the Help system under
