Configuring calendar event categories

Use this procedure to configure the calendar event categories that will be used by your syndicated calendar page for categorizing events.

  1. From the System menu, go to the Syndication Manager.

  2. In the Syndication Type field, select Pages.

  3. If there is a particular HTML editor you wish to use when creating the articles, you may want to select the site from which to use the editor settings. This is done in the Use Editor Settings From field at the top of the page.

  4. Click the Manage Syndicated Page Settings button.

  5. In the Page Types section of the screen, click on the link for the Syndicated Event page type.

The page displays all of the current event categories defined for calendars within the current installation of the ACTIVE Content Manager. Where site groups are used, only the categories for calendars within the site group are displayed.

  6. Click Add to create a new category line and type in the new Category name. If you wish to edit existing Category names you may do so. Any changes you make will be made to all calendars and events that are using that category.

  7. Determine if the event category is Private. A private event category is one that should only be available on the calendar where it originated from. If this is the case:

      • If the event is Private, the Originating Calendar Page column should display the name of the calendar page from which the event category was pulled. If you need to select the page where the event originates, click the <<Select Page>> link and select the desired calendar page.

You must ensure that the originating page is set if you want events in this category to be private. When they are flagged as private, only users with access to the originating calendar can view those events.

      • For private event categories, you must make sure the Private column is checked. Checking this option will ensure that the category will only be available to the specified Calendar of origin.

If a category not previously flagged as private gets set later to private, the category is removed from all calendars except the calendar identified as the originating one.

      • When the Syndicate column is checked, the category is syndicated. If a category is set to Private, this will be unchecked. It is selected by default when a new category is created.  This flag controls whether or not the category is to be syndicated in the Calendar Web Service.

If the category was previously flagged as true and has been changed to false, the category becomes unavailable for filtering on other calendars across the webservice. If the category was already in use and is changed to non-syndicated, it becomes inactive and events tied to this category are no longer displayed.

      • The administrator can use the Delete column to remove a category but only if there are no events assigned to it and it has not been set as the default category on any calendar.

  8. Use the Add button to create new categories and click Save when you have finished editing event categories.

  9. In the Even Locations section, add default locations that will be used frequently for your event listings. This will make it easier when creating events as you won't need to type in the same event address over and over again.
