Use this procedure to create a section of your site with restricted access. For example, a portion of your site may contain sensitive financial information related to your organization. You can give a small group of people access to those pages and ensure that unauthorized users do not have access.
In the Group Manager, create a special group that will have access to the restricted section of your site. Select the Personalization checkbox.
On the Members tab of the Group Manager, assign the desired users to the group and save it.
Create the parent page (top-level page) for the restricted section of the site. This is the page that users will see immediately after logging into the restricted section of your site. This will also be the parent page for all subsequent restricted pages that are part of this section. For example, the parent page could be the title page for the Human Resources department. Then all child pages would be the various pages of that department.
If you are going to allow individuals to apply for an account so that they can access your restricted area, you must create an Application form type page. This is the form that users will fill out when applying for an account so make sure you collect the necessary information. You can also indicate on the Application form which group users should automatically be added to once approved. This will be the group you created in step 1 above.
On your Home page or the parent page you just created, create a new Login page. You should give the page a meaningful name that will tell visitors to your site what the login is for. For example: "Corporate Info Centre Login" or "Financial Accounts Login". Set the Post-Login Page field to be the parent page of the restricted section. Set the Join Form page to be the application form you just created.
Note: For pages that use ACTIVE Passport, the only controls on the Content tab of the login page type that apply are the Post Login Page checkbox and the Public Login checkbox in the Login Properties section. See Creating login pages. Also, for public users, you can use the PassportWidget page type instead of the login page type.
Go to the Personalization tab of the new parent page, and select the Personalize Content checkbox. Then make sure that the Use parent members checkbox is clear. Once you have done this, you can click the Edit viewer(s) link and select the special groups you created above. These are the people who will be able to log into the restricted portion. Set the login page to be the one you just created.
You can allow the link to the restricted page to be displayed in the section menu so that users can click it, but they will not be able to view the page until they have logged in.
Note: Personalization only works in a dynamic site environment. You may add a login page within your static site for visitors to access personalized content, but the personalized pages will remain within your dynamic URL.
